Seven years after the release of The Seduction of Christianity in 1985, its authors, Dave Hunt and T.A. McMahon, also joined forces on another front. They began a ministry for the purpose of encouraging spiritual discernment among those who regarded themselves as biblical Christians. The primary vehicle for this endeavor was through the publication of the newsletter The Berean Call. Behind every article is the exhortation to believers to get back into the Word of God instead of being "carried about by every wind of doctrine," and to equip them with materials to help them walk in the truth. The ministry name, The Berean Call, is taken from Acts 17:11 where the writer of Acts commended those in the synagogue of the Greek city of Berea for being more fair minded than those in Thessalonica, because while they were eager to receive the Word, they also checked it against what the Apostle Paul taught them in order to see if his teaching was according to the Scriptures or not.

Be Prepared - A Vast Number Are Coming in Christ's Name | by Ray Yungen, 1/7/11
I have heard two interpretations of Jesus' reply. The first interpretation asserts various individuals will claim to be the returning, incumbent Jesus Christ. The other view says a number of messiah figures will appear and gather followers to themselves in a similar fashion to cult leader Jim Jones or Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, the guru leader who set up his idea of utopia in Oregon. I now believe neither of these interpretations encompass the bigger picture. It is in light of numerous New Age statements that Matthew 24 takes on new significance.

The Truth Behind The Postmodern Emergent Church | by Sandy Simpson, 1/7/11
I am quite familiar with what drives the younger generation today because it was what I had to repent of when I was a youth. So I know the desire to try to justify yourself and what you are doing because you want to be able to continue to do those things while assuaging your conscience because so many others are doing them along with you. I attempted some of the same tactics when I had drifted away from the Lord early in my life. But no amount of jury-rigging the truth can change God's absolute truth. The bottom line is that, as believers, we either have to choose to follow the foolishness of men or the wisdom of God. 1Co 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness"; {Job 5:13}

Does the emergent church movement preach the gospel that saves? | by Mike Oppenheimer, 1/10/11
An appeal to pursuers of the new church movements. We have a duty to be keepers, protectors and proclaimers of the gospel, it is to be the same message that was given to the apostles nearly 2,000 years ago. What has saved us is to save others. This gospel can be changed from applying new innovations. Even Brian McLaren admits the way that emerging church presents the message can be changing the gospel.
