Walking the Waves
by Juanita Simpson
This book was written by my mother and is about my family's experience as missionaries in Micronesia.  Juanita went to be with the Lord in August of 2018.  This book has been a blessing to many people around the world and I want to share it with you. - Sandy Simpson
This is the story of a young woman who goes to the ends of the Earth with her pastor husband and two small children. While describing the hardships of living in a remote village on a remote Pacific Island in the 60's, it also gives us a vision of the joy the family experienced as well. The heart of the book is the story of how the author survives the death of her husband and goes on to serve God and the Micronesian people in her own right. This book reveals a woman of great faith and courage. In addition, the book is well written and a pleasure to read.Having met the author, I will add that there are thousands of people throughout Micronesia who love her and who have benefited by her faithfulness and commitment over the years. Read the book and get to know this wonderful woman. Review by Richard D. Shewman on Amazon.

Is James MacDonald the Next Jim Bakker? Allegations of Secret Budget Grow as Pastor Prepares Comeback
by Jackie Alnor, 6/6/19 The Christian Sentinel

What do spies and televangelists have in common? Financial secrecy. Taxpayers and donors have little access to relevant financial information about their operations. But there are whistleblowers and bloggers willing to reveal financial secrets. Edward Snowden leaked documents showing that $52.6 billion funded 16 intelligence agencies in 2013. Journalist Julie Roys recently broke the news story of pastor James MacDonald's extravagant compensation from Harvest Bible Chapel: "In 2018, Harvest reportedly paid MacDonald $80,000 per month ($50,000/month in regular salary and $30,000/month in deferred compensation) for a total of $960,000 per year." Even more troubling was the existence of secret church budget: "This budget reportedly comprised about 20-percent of Harvest's total budget and was kept secret from all but top church staff and the former elder executive committee."

What churches should know about YWAM
by Holly Pivec, 6/8/19 Spirit of Error

This post is the first in a series on the influential Christian missions organization Youth With a Mission (YWAM), with a focus on its relationship to the controversial New Apostolic Reformation movement. YWAM was founded in 1960 by Loren Cunningham as a way to deploy young people as missionaries throughout the world. It's now one of the largest Christian missionary organizations, having more than 18,000 staff working in over 180 nations. Many churches financially support YWAM full-time missionaries and young adults who sign up to go on short-term mission trips with YWAM or to attend one of YWAM's Discipleship Training Schools or other schools. Yet many of these churches would likely be surprised and concerned to learn about some of the unbiblical and spiritually harmful teachings promoted by this organization. In this first post I'll outline one significant part of YWAM's theologically controversial history to set the stage for future posts about YWAM as it currently stands.  Read Part 1 & Part 2.

Neglecting to Test the Spirits-A Tragedy of Enormous Proportions
by Lighthouse Trails, 6/10/19 LT Publishing

If there is one thing we don't hear much about from today's Christian leaders and pastors, it is the importance of testing the spirits. The idea comes from the Bible in 1 John 4:1, which states: Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try [test] the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. This can relate both to the experiential and the doctrinal. With either, we need to remember that not every experience and not every doctrine is "of God" because indeed there are "many false prophets" in the world and in the "church" today, and there are many "voices" that are not from God.

Does Ephesians 4:11 Establish a Doctrine of "The Five-fold Ministry"?
by David Kowalski, 6/11/19

Is the following verse enough for establishing a five-fold ministry doctrine (as suggested by proponents of the New Apostolic Reformation)? And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,
- Source: Ephesians 4:11 NASB We should first note that a comparison of Paul's listings of gifts and functionaries (types of gifted ministers) are not exhaustive but illustrative. Most commentators agree that Paul gives no clue here that he meant "these and no more." The same reasoning that develops a five-fold ministry doctrine could develop an eight-fold ministry doctrine from 1 Corinthians 12:28.
